Orbit College seal Betway Premiership promotion, condemn Cape Town City to relegation

Orbit College sealed their promotion to the Betway Premiership while condemning Cape Town City to relegation following a 1-0 victory at Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg.

The only goal of the game was scored two minutes after the halftime interval when forward Letsie Koapeng found the back of the net.

The result sealed a dreadful campaign for the Citizens, who ended the league season in 15th position and will now be playing in Motesepe Foundation Championship.

The Cape team knew going into the game that they needed four points from their remaining two matches in the playoffs, and started the contest well.

Haashim Domingo shot wide from long-range while another effort from Amadou Soukouna was straight at home goalkeeper Sekhoane Moerane.

Orbit came into the game more as the match went on and finished the half strongly with them testing visiting shot-stopper Darren Keet.

The home side then made the breakthrough soon after the break when Koapeng beat Keet at the near-post to make it 1-0.

The Citizens piled on the pressure in the final stages but the last pass or cross did find the intended targets and ultimately the Cape side were really poor on the day to end a dreadful season.

Cape Town City have now been relegated after a nine-year stay in South Africa's top-flight but at the other end of the spectrum there were wild celebrations from the hosts and their supporters at the final whistle.
