2023 Cricket World Cup: How do the Round-Robin format and knockout stages work?

The 10 participating teams in this year's Cricket World Cup will compete in a combined group using a round-robin format.

During the round-robin stage, each team will play every other team once.

Teams will earn two points for a victory, one point for a tie or a no-result, and zero points for a loss.

After all 10 teams have completed their nine group-stage matches, the four teams with the highest number of points will progress to the semi-finals.

In the event that teams are level on points, five other factors will be used to separate them, if necessary.

In order of most to least important, the deciding factors will be wins, net run rate, results between tied teams, and pre-tournament seeding.

During the semi-finals, the team that secured the top position in the group stage will take on the fourth-ranked team, while the second-ranked team will compete against the third-ranked team in the other semi-final.

The winners of the semi-finals will clash in the final match, and the victorious team will claim the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 title.
