Durban Super Giants slay Joburg Super Kings at Kingsmead

The Durban Super Giants remained unbeaten when they earned a bonus-point win over the Joburg Super Kings in Monday night's SA20 action.

A balmy evening in Durban played host to the fixture, where the hosts bested the Super Kings by 37 runs.

Chasing 145, Faf du Plessis and Reeza Hendricks got the Super Kings off to a flyer, until Keshav Maharaj clean-bowled his fellow captain du Plessis with a superlative piece of deception.

The Proteas spinner then picked up another in his second over when Ronan Herrmann dragged the ball onto his stumps. Dwaine Pretorius then got in on the action to dismiss Leus du Plooy and the visitors were struggling at 44/3.

Maharaj and JJ Smuts kept things tight and with the pressure building, the Super Kings attempted to hit their way out of trouble. First, Hendricks miscued a lofted drive, then Donavan Ferreira and Romario Shappard fell cheaply. Moeen Ali put on a quickfire 36, but Reece Topley picked up two wickets in two balls to put the result beyond doubt.

Earlier, the Super Giants were on the back foot early on the patchy surface. Disciplined bowling from the visitors had them 34/4, with the likes of the dangerous Quinton de Kock and Smuts back in the dressing room.

But the Super Giants bat deep. The scintillating Heinrich Klaasen managed to transfer some of the pressure, needing just 34 balls to get to his 50.

Unfortunately for the Super Giants, players continued to fall around the belligerent Klaasen, stunting their innings. But the Proteas batter's 64 off 41 propelled the hosts to a defendable total, while Lizaad Williams impressed with the ball, picking up 4/26.
