Heinrich Klaasen hoping for better pitch conditions against Netherlands

Proteas wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen says he anticipates the pitch will be better when they face the Netherlands in New York for their second T20 World Cup match.

There has been growing concerns about the conditions of the pitch in New York with former players and fans complaining about low-scoring matches, especially the India versus Ireland game that injured India captain Rohit Sharma. Klaasen says he’s hoping for a fair contest.

''A couple games against the Netherlands, they have been playing good cricket against us. But hopefully we can put up back to back wickets on the same one we played on, hopefully we can get some form of a better wicket -It just need to be a fair contest,'' said Klaasen.

The Nassau County International Cricket Stadium has hosted two low-scoring games due to the nature of the pitch. The wicketkeeper however insists that since they played Sri Lanka on the same pitch, this may work to their advantage as they will be counting on their experience as a team, having played in fields like this before.

''Having played the previous game against Sri Lanka gives an indication of what we can expect, we just reformulate our game plan a little bit and we do have experience playing in these kinds of conditions, it's all about winning the game,'' added Klassen.

The ICC released a statement acknowledging that the pitch has not been up to par and the grounds team have been working hard to remedy the situation. Klaasen is hoping the grounds team can get the pitch balance right for a more challenging game of cricket.
