Hollywoodbets steps up to sponsor women’s domestic cricket

Betting giants Hollywoodbets has teamed up with Cricket South Africa to sponsor the women’s professional league following a one-year agreement with an option to extend.

Hollywoodbets will serve as the official sponsor of the Pro Series, which is aimed at advancing women’s cricket in South Africa.

CSA chief Pholetsi Moseki told SABC Sport that the Pro Series, which will consist of six teams, has the potential to grow the sport and discover emerging talent.

"Last year we launched the very first professional women's league [in sports] in the country, so today we're welcoming a very important partner on board," shared Moseki.

"Hollywoodbets has decided to walk this journey with us, and we're quite excited to basically announce the launch of the Hollywoodbets Pro Series, which will be what our women's professional domestic league will be called going forward."

Moseki shared his excitement for the players getting paid for their participation in the league, as he explained the format of the Pro Series set to begin in October 2024.

"As you'll recall, when we launched the league last year, we've got six professional teams where the players are basically employed full-time, which was a first for women's sport in that sense," explained Moseki.

"So the two formats will be the T20 and 50-overs, because we don't have four-day formats yet for the ladies, so hopefully in the future we can also include that."

Moseki added that CSA intentionally scheduled the announcement during Women’s Month to honour and highlight the challenges and achievements of women in sports.
