SA had their backs against the wall at 20-4 and 43-6, but Kayla Reyneke top-scored with 53 off 49 balls to see her side through for a respectable 112-7.
After a good foundation with the bat, Scotland tried to take the chase to the hosts but saw wickets tumbling at regular intervals.
Madison Landsman was the star with the ball, scoring a superb hat-trick in the 15th over to dash Scotland's hopes of reaching the target.
Her figures of 4-12 helped her become the first player to register a hat-trick at an U19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
The hosts could be involved in another exciting match on Wednesday when they face the United Arab Emirates. The two teams are level on points in the Group D table, having both won against the Scots and lost to tournament favourites India.
The top three teams from each group will advance to the Super Six round, where the teams will be paired into two groups of six.
