The Proteas secured an outstanding 80-run win over Scotland Women in their third match at Dubai International Stadium on Wednesday.
Kapp says they had to be at their best against the Scottish side to secure their second win and be at the summit of the log.
"Look, it's always tricky games, games like today but we knew we had to be at our best. I think that has been the message throughout this tournament is that powerplay to try and be a bit more attacking and today, I think our openers started us off brilliantly," Kapp said.
After choosing to bat first, South Africa hit a tournament high of 166-5 in their 20 overs, with a total of six fours during Kapp’s 24-ball 43.
She added that taking some time ahead of the World Cup to focus on refining her batting skills has helped with her self-belief.
"Working a lot on the basics, hitting the ball as late as possible, looking at our other options as well. I feel like I'm striking the ball more powerfully now and then I also have one or two extra shorts I can go to if the pace is not there. So, it's just been a mixture,” she added.
“As I said in so many interviews, I feel like it's more a confidence thing for me knowing now that I can bat, I don't have to show anyone that I can hold a bat. If you look at my cricket, if I feel like you believe in me and you rate me as a cricketer, I'll probably perform where if I feel insecure then I'm not gonna perform."
The 34-year-old further praised her teammate and spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba for picking up at the right time with her performance.
"Yes, definitely especially looking to the lead to this World Cup, she's not been at her best and she knows that then she gets to the World Cup and then somehow finds her best. It's good times for us, hopefully, she can continue like that for the next couple of games. I'm very proud of her for turning things around so quickly."
