MI Cape Town's Ryan Rickelton puts Paarl Royals to the sword

Ryan Rickelton blasted an unbeaten 94 to secure an emphatic eight-wicket win for MI Cape Town over the Paarl Royals on Friday night's SA20 action at Newlands.

Chasing 172, Rassie van der Dussen and Rickelton continued the superlative form at the top order for hosts MI Cape Town, as they remained undefeated in the Power Play for the fourth time. This was largely thanks to a dropped catch from David Miller, who put down Rickelton after some confusion in the field. And what an expensive drop it would prove to be¦

But Van der Dussen would hole out at long-on for a quickfire 41(28), giving the Royals a much-needed breakthrough at 80/1 off eight overs.

The relentless Rickelton then brought up his fourth consecutive 50 with a six as MI Cape Town marched towards victory. Tabraiz Shamsi then bagged his second scalp when Dewald Brevis - who™s had a nightmare tournament - toed one to the deep for just 10.

Connor Esterhuizen calmed proceedings down as Rickelton continued about his business, racing past 300 runs for the tournament. He continued to live a charmed life, getting dropped on 72 by van Buuren in the deep. The hosts rolled on, with Rickelton fittingly hoiking the final ball for six to secure a comfortable victory.

Earlier, the Royals got off to a flyer thanks to England's Jason Roy. The South African-born batter took a liking to Kagiso Rabada, blasting 35 runs off the first seven balls he faced from the Proteas quick. Rabada got the last laugh though, as Roy seemingly gave up his wicket, scooping the ball straight to short fine leg.

Jos Buttler also joined in on the action, smashing 46 off 31, taking them to 63/2 off 5.1 overs. From there, MI Cape Town began to claw their way back. Pretoria native Thomas Kerber™s leg-spin was a handful, as he picked up 3/20.

Wihan Lubbe, Andile Phehlukwayo and Fabian Allen all fell cheaply, leaving the Royals wavering at 135/6. Blows from Mitchell van Buuren 28(24) and Bjorn Fortuin got the visitors to a respectable 172.
