The high-scoring fixture saw a total of 417 runs, with MI Cape Town setting an imposing target of 222/3 before restricting the Capitals to 195/8.
MI Cape Town's innings got off to a strong start with Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton putting together a 45-run opening stand in just 4.4 overs.
However, it was Reeza Hendricks and Dewald Brevis who stole the show with an unbroken 142-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Hendricks blazed his way to 77* off 44 balls, while Brevis hammered 73* off just 32 deliveries, propelling MI Cape Town to a formidable total.
Pretoria Capitals fought valiantly in their chase, with Will Jacks and Will Smeed constructing a 72-run partnership for the second wicket.
Late cameos from Ashton Turner and Keagan Lion-Cachet kept their hopes alive, but MI Cape Town's bowling attack, led by Rashid Khan and Corbin Bosch, ensured they fell short.
The match was briefly interrupted by lightning and thundershowers but resumed without major delays.
With this defeat, Pretoria Capitals have been eliminated from playoff contention, while Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings advance to the Eliminator at Centurion on Wednesday.
