Proteas fast bowler Anrich Nortje has called for the three-match One Day International series against England to be wrapped up early as history beckons at Old Trafford.
South Africa will be looking to secure victory against England when they run out for the second ODI in Manchester, having won the first one by 62 runs at Riverside Ground in Durham on Tuesday.
This could be the first victory against the World Champions in their own backyard since 1998, and Nortje is wary of the slip-up against India during the T20 series on the sub-continent last month when they surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 after the decisive encounter was rained out.
"Theres definitely some learnings from that [India tour]. I have to be honest and we know the team that were playing against has nothing to lose. Theyre going to come hard at us because they also want to draw level in the series," Nortje told a press conference.
"Weve only won one game now and every time we come close to that [winning a series], we want to try and pull through. Were aware of it and want to go for the win and for the kill. We dont want to drag it out even longer."
With England certain to throw the kitchen sink at the Proteas, the 28-year-old insisted the team's intention comes first rather than concerning themselves about how the opponents might approach the tie.
"For us, its about doing what we do well. Were not too bothered about how England goes about their thing. Thats their own sort of strategy and how they want to play," he added.
"For us, its about on the day, so obviously if its a green wicket then things might change. Well try and adapt as quickly as possible, but going all guns blazing might be tough.
"We will just try to adapt and to be smart. They have very good batters, so well have to be on it, it doesnt matter where were playing. We have to stay on our toes and do our homework."
