Speaking to SABC Sport De Klerk stated if she wins player of the year it will validate her contribution to the national team in all formats of the game.

''Probably the player of the year, I would  say it is the biggest award. I mean as a player, you want to be known as the greatest in all formats of the game. I would definitely like to win the player of the year,'' said De Klerk.

The 24-year-old says she looks up to her teammate, all-rounder Marizanne Kapp - the first cricketer to take a hat-trick in a women’s T20 International match and whom she is nominated with for the player of the year award alongside, Laura Wolvaardt and medium bowler Masabata Klaas.

''That I get to play plenty of games for South Africa. I have learnt a lot from the fellow nominees, especially Marizanne - she is an all-round as well, such a good example. It has been an honour to play alongside all of them,'' added De Klerk.

De Klerk added that she aims to contribute positively to the national team at the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup to be hosted in the United Arab Emirates in October, stating that she wants to continue showcasing a more aggressive approach in her game.

''I guess, is to continue with whatever you bring to the table and obviously you want to get better. There's a big World Cup coming for us, I just want to take as many wickets as I can and score as many runs as I can. I know I have tried in the past couple months to get better and that is what I will continue to do,'' she concluded.

De Klerk further mentioned that -  it will be best to lift up the World Cup trophy, to make South Africa proud and show some progress compared to their experience at the previous World Cup in New Zealand.
