The Proteas will face India in a three-match ODI that will start with a 50-over warm up on Thursday, with the first ODI kicking off on Sunday, 16 June until next Sunday, 23 June, followed by a one-off test from 29 June to 01 July, then end the tour with a three-match T20 series from 05 – 09 July. Wolvaardt says they’ve had enough time to regroup after the Sri Lanka series.
''Definitely very confident, I think we had a successful tour the last time we were here. We had a good couple of weeks of preparation, had some time at home to regroup after the Sri Lanka series, looking forward to the warm game,'' said Wolvaardt.
Wolvaardt who played for Gujarat Giants in the Women’s IPL in India speaks about how she has gotten used to the playing conditions in India.
''Obviously they have played a lot of cricket recently, the WPL was amazing, the amount of cricket the Indian girls get to play over here is really cool. Luckily a few of us were able to play in the tournament as well, with myself being able to play a few games, to get used to the conditions,'' she added.
The Proteas come from a disappointing test series against Sri Lanka in March where they lost 2-1 in the T20 series and drew the ODI 1-1. Woolvaardt however scored her individual highest score of 184 runs off 147 balls. She says they are aware of how tough it is to break the India team.
The captain is ranked number 3 in the ODI batting rankings and the ICC Women’s T20I batting rankings. She says they will need to plan properly with the Proteas bowlers because Indian batters are very strong.
