Proteas Women leaning on experience ahead of T20 World Cup final

Cricket South Africa spin lead Paul Adams believes a spot in the Women’s T20 World Cup final for the second time in succession gives the Proteas Women an upper hand ahead of their clash against New Zealand Women.

The Proteas knocked out the defending champions, Australia, after a convincing eight-wicket victory to book their ticket to the final on Thursday.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Adams says last year’s experience of losing the title at home will come in handy, as the Proteas aim to secure the most coveted trophy in Women’s T20 cricket.

"The previous experience in the final is really great for the team, having gone through those emotional highs and the experience of playing in a final is important. So, a lot of the players were involved and taking all those experiences is important within this whole competition and how to deal with the outside pressure,” Adams said.

“So, it's been really great that they can sort of compose themselves on the day, really get them focused but using every experience as possible within tournaments is absolutely vital."

Adams says the players should display experience over emotions against a tough NewZealand side at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.

"I wouldn't call it revenge, I think the team is just taking each game as it goes and each opponent as they come in front of us. It's important that they really just stay present and not take any past emotions but rather take the past experience," he added.

Proteas Women batter Anneke Bosch was very instrumental in their semi-final clinical win over Australia - with a career best of 74 off 58 deliveries with eight-fours and one-six.

Adams praised her for being proactive and performing her role perfectly.

"She went out there and performed her role perfectly, she shows she was very proactive in the way to getting to scoring areas and that's what she needed to just really just step into that space and not really fear of getting out or anything like that,” he explained.

“The batting coach [Baakier Abrahams] has put her into that role and it's important that she really backs herself and have the confidence that everyone is backing her and she must go out there and really look to be aggresive and play the performance that she did last night."
