The Proteas qualified for the semifinals after beating the West Indies by three wickets. The Proteas remain unbeaten in the World Cup and Walter insists the team will continue to do well.
“I think what we do have in T20 cricket, having x-factor players really does make a difference, the guys can impact the game in a very short space of time. If we look through our players, each guy in the team has shown his ability to impact the T20 format of the game, and because of that it gives us a great chance of winning,'' said Walter.
After making it to the semifinals, Proteas captain Aiden Markram said to the media that they haven’t played their best cricket yet. Walter has however praised Markram, stating that the skipper has a lot of respect from players in the changeroom, making it easy for him to lead the team.
''Look Aiden - as there's been couple of reports in the past, is a very understated leader, but with guys like that - when they talk the team listens - he has the respect in the changeroom and I thought yesterday strategically he was very strong and has been so in the games that we have played, defending low scores,'' added Walter.
The Proteas will face Afghanistan in the semifinal on Thursday. The coach has complimented his captain for being innovative with their bowling line up, especially in their game against the West Indies.
Proteas opener Reeza Hendricks hasn’t had a great run in the World Cup, going out for a duck in their clash against the West Indies. The coach however insists he still believes in him.
