It was in 2013 when New Zealand arrived in Cape Town to take on the Proteas in the traditional New Year's Test match with the left-arm paceman in the line-up, but the visitors were rolled over in the first session after being bowled out for just 45.
The Black Caps went on lose the match by innings and 27 runs with Boult at least taking three wickets in his only innings in the field, including the scalps of Jacques Kallis, Dean Elgar and Alviro Petersen.
Now a grizzly veteran that has played 79 Test matches and in two 50-over World Cup finals, Boult has had a major impact so far in the SA20 and cannot wait to run out at Newlands in what will be MI Cape Town's first home game of the campaign when they take on the Paarl Royals on Monday.
"I've only played one game out here before and I remember crying when it happened," Boult told reporters at Newlands on Sunday. "It was a Test match and we got bowled out for 45 as a New Zealand side.
"That's my only experience really. It's going to be great to have our first home game of the season. It is one of the most iconic, picturesque grounds in the world, so it's a great place to play some cricket."
The New Zealand seamer has been a great addition to the tournament in South Africa, having already taken three wickets in the opening two matches, but it is his full array of skills with the ball that has been most impressive.
The 35-year-old made a spectacular entry into the SA20, knocking over England opener Zak Crawley on his way to figures of 2-16 as MI Cape Town thrashed defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape by 97 runs in tournament opener.
The left-arm paceman then took 1-20 against the Jobug Super Kings at the Wanderers but it was not enough as the men from the Cape fell to a six-run defeat in an encounter that was cut short by rain.
Boult has described the abundance of talent on display in the SA20 as "phenomenal" as well playing in front of sold-out crowds.
"I think as a whole the tournament is very exciting," he said. "The standard is phenomenal. Obviously this part of the world, South Africans are very patriotic, passionate sportsmen.
"They've obviously bred a lot of good cricketers. So it's a great place to play cricket. To get the chance to come up against some guys that I'm pretty familiar with and then some guys that are a little bit unknown to me but still very, very talented. It's a great spectacle."
Boult has now represented the Mumbai franchise in four T20 leagues around the world, having played in MLC in the USA, IL T20 in the UAE and he will make a return in the IPL later this year.
He added: "I've been very lucky to be involved in such as great franchise, a franchise that I am really proud to represent.
"The best thing about it is the consistency with everything off the field as well as on the field. It is all the same across the board.
"In the last year I have played in New York, the Emirates (UAE), Cape Town now and in a few months time back with the Mumbai Indians but it is an environment I'm very comfortable with and looking forward to some good times again."
