Senuran Muthusamy has been recalled and will join Keshav Maharaj and Dane Piedt as the three slow-bowlers in the squad while batters Aiden Markram and Tristan Stubbs could also add to to the spin department.
The 30-year-old Muthusamy has three Test appearances under his belt with his last cap in the longest format coming against West Indies in Centurion in February last year.
Matthew Breetzke, who was part of the recent Test tour of the West Indies, is the only uncapped player in the squad, while Temba Bavuma will continue to lead the team.
Kagiso Rabada will lead the fast-bowling attack that includes left-arm paceman Nandre Burger and seamers Dane Paterson and Wiaan Mulder.
Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee have been rested for the tour while Anrich Nortje is still missing as he concentrates on the shorter formats.
Conrad said: "Bangladesh is always a tough place to tour. They've become a formidable side at home and we have to be prepared for the challenge that awaits us.
"We have therefore chosen a squad for the conditions we are expecting to greet us when we get there. We have three frontline spinners and all of them have the ability to step up at any time they are needed.
"This is a great chance for someone like Senuran, who has potential to make a mark with both bat and ball. We are really looking forward to seeing what he can offer.
"Overall, we trust the depth and versatility in our squad to meet this challenge head-on."
The squad will attend a red-ball camp in Pretoria from 12 â- 14 October, before departing for Bangladesh on 15 October.
The first Test will be played in Dhaka from 21 October with the second and final match of the series at Chattogram from 29 October.
