Naidu was instrumental as the Proteas clinched an eight-wicket victory over Pakistan in the third T20 International, as they registered a 2-1 series win in Multan last week.
Speaking to SABC Sport, the Pietermaritzburg-born 18-year-old is looking forward to continuing her good form leading up to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates next week.
“Coming to the national team at such a young age has always been a dream for me. I am really enjoying it, I just want to grow and learn as much as I can, and continue to make an impact in the team,” said Naidu.
The SA under-19 star enjoyed a decent display on debut in the first of the three-match series against Pakistan, securing her first catch and claiming her first senior international wicket.
“I was really excited because it was my first international wicket with the national team. I was not expecting it, and luckily Sune caught it, so I was happy because I still look up to her,” she added.
Naidu is joined by her friend, 20-year-old bowler Ayanda Hlubi, who also made her debut in the series against Pakistan, and says having her around made her first international tour much easier.
“It's really nice to have someone who is in the same age group as you – you can talk to them and spend time with them,” she noted.
“We got to know each other from the under-19 World Cup, and Ayanda and I grew up together and used to play cricket together. It's good to meet in the national team again.”
The Proteas Women will open their T20 World Cup campaign against the West Indies next Friday at Dubai International Stadium.
