Temba Bavuma ruled out of Proteas final ODI vs Ireland

Proteas captain Temba Bavuma will play no part in the final One Day International against Ireland in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

Already with an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, South Africa will look to complete a white-wash over the Irish at Sheikh Zayed Stadium without Bavuma, who suffered an injury in Friday's 174-run victory.

The 34-year-old had made a dive for the line at the non-striker's end after a quick single, landing awkwardly and subsequently retiring hurt following the incident.

Cricket South Africa have since confirmed he has sustained "a soft tissue injury in his left elbow", with further tests to determine the full extent of the injury set to be conducted upon his return in the country.

Whether Bavuma will be available for the upcoming two-match Test series in Bangladesh, which will count towards the ICC World Test Championship ending 2025, scheduled for 21-25 October and 29 October - 2 November 2024.

Another player ruled out of the final ODI is all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, who has had to return home for "personal reasons" on the eve of the match.

Rassie van der Dussen will step in as captain, while Mulder will not be replaced in the squad due to sufficient cover.

The match is set to get underway at 13:30 (SA time).
