Wiaan Mulder hits maiden Test century as Proteas continue to dominate Bangladesh

Wiaan Mulder scored his maiden century as the Proteas piled on the runs on the second day of the second Test against Bangladesh in Chattogram before taking four wickets at stumps.

Mulder struck an unbeaten 105 to join Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs (106) as the third centurion in the first innings as the Proteas declared on a mammoth 575-6 in the final session.

The bowlers then went to work and paceman Kagiso Rabada picked up the first two wickets as the hosts were reduced to 38-4 at the close of play, still trailing by 537 runs.

The tourists resumed the second morning on 307-2 with De Zorzi (141) and David Bedingham (18) at the crease.

The Western Province pair extended their partnership to 116 with Bedingham going on to reach his third Test half-century before before being clean bowled by left-arm spinner Taijul Islam for 59.

The left-handed De Zorzi made his way to 177 before he was trapped lbw by Islam while Ryan Rickelton (12) and Kyle Verreynne (0) did not trouble the scorers much to leave the Proteas on 423-6.

Mulder was joined by Senuran Muthusamy (68 not out) and the duo added 152 runs unbroken for the seventh wicket with the former reaching his maiden ton in the longest format and the latter going to a first fifty in Test cricket.

Captain Aiden Markram then called his batters in and the fired up bowlers were in the action immediately with Rabada removing opener Shadman Islam for duck and then number three Zakir Hasan (2).

Seamer Dane Paterson had Mahmudul Hasan Joy (10) caught at second slip and spinner Keshav Maharaj bowled nightwatchman Hasan Mahmud (3) to complete a near perfect day for the Proteas.
