SABC Sport has learnt that goalkeeper Jody February and midfielder Sammy Seabi have been deemed surplus to requirements at Mamelodi Sundowns this season.

February watched the DStv Premiership clash between Swallows FC and Cape Town City on Tuesday afternoon from the stands following his return to Downs, at the end of his loan spell with the Dube Birds.

According to information gathered by SABC Sport, the Soweto club are yet to show any serious interest to retain February and have actually signed a new goalkeeper in Thakasani Mbanjwa.

Coach Dylan Kerr also still has Sanele Tshabalala on the club's books along with veteran Thela Thela, so it is unlikely they will return to the market for an additional shot-stopper.

It™s believed Jody has been informed by the Sundowns technical team that he is not in their plans for the 2022/23 season, which was expected when they signed Bafana Bafana skipper Ronwen Williams from SuperSport United.

Downs also still have Reyaad Pieterse, Kennedy Mweene and Denis Onyango registered in their squad for the new campaign.

Another player in limbo is Seabi, who spent the previous campaign on loan at Chippa United and managed a satisfactory 22 matches.

The public broadcaster's sports desk understands that the player has also been informed he will not feature for the defending champions and must now look for opportunities elsewhere.

It™s not clear yet whether Downs will terminate their contracts and release them as free agents or if they are likely to loan them out yet again, but what has been confirmed to the public broadcaster is that they will not be part of their squad.

With the transfer window extended until September 22, there is a few more weeks for February and Seabi to find a new home, should they not be handed their clearances.
