The public broadcaster broke the news that the 25-year-old, who joined Esperance from Sekhukhune United in August, had communicated – through his attorney Kabelo Mashigo – that he would walk away if the matter was not resolved.

It’s understood Mokwana was owed money, and his representatives had sent the club notice of a possible termination.

But Mashigo now says the two parties have found an amicable way to resolve the drama, which threw Tunisian media into a tailspin over the weekend.

Asked whether this issue would not rear its ugly head once more, Mashigo threatened to throw the rule book at Esperance if it does.

“No, we have made it clear that this cannot happen again, and the enforcement of applicable regulations will be applied without further notice, should anything like this ever happen,” the lawyer explained.

“On Friday we had a discussion with the club, and we were able to find each other. The club has essentially rectified its breach, meaning they are no longer in breach and have complied with the terms of the contract to date.”

Mokwana is currently in camp with Bafana Bafana and started in their 2-0 win over Uganda on the day Mashigo spoke with the club.

South Africa face South Sudan in a dead rubber Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Cape Town on Tuesday, having already secured their ticket to Morocco next year.

“Elias will be returning to Tunis to fulfil his obligations as per the contract, once he is done with national duty,” his attorney assured the public broadcaster.
