Chiefs finally return to winning ways

It was not pretty but Kaizer Chiefs finally snapped a four-game losing streak on Tuesday night, as they narrowly beat Marumo Gallants 1-0 in a DSTV Premiership game played at FNB stadium.

A goal from Keagan Dolly, his eighth of the season, ensured that Chiefs return to winning ways after five matches. Caretaker coach Arthur Zwane, who registered his first win since taking over from Stuart Baxter, said this victory came just at the right time before they host league champions Mamelodi Sundowns at the same venue, on Sunday.

œThis game was always gonna be an ice breaker for us to build the confidence to the next game, so I think credit must go to the boys. They worked their socks off. said Zwane

Gallants, who are fresh from qualifying for the Nedbank Cup final last Friday, are now on a six-game winless streak in the league.

œThey came here oozing confidence because they are also in the final of a Nedbank so you could even see second half I think towards the end of the game they had a lot of touches on the ball trying to unlock us, Zwane added.

The win took Amakhosi to 42 points with only three games to go in this campaign and just three points behind second placed Royal AM, who have a game in hand.

œI think we were stubborn today when it comes to defending and we were also disciplined, so credit goes to the all the back four - and the guys who gave them support when they needed them, explained Zwane.

On the other hand, head coach Dan œDance Malesela bemoaned the errors that led to their loss and also implied that inexperience from his team was to blame for failing to handle the excitement coming from reaching the final.

œFor us playing way, way out of character¦playing with too many technical (errors) and we struggled to control the ball. We struggled to pass you know. We struggled to choose the right people to pass. When we got into position, when we look like we can score we chose the wrong options, I think it was just a mess, said Malesela.
