Kaizer Chiefs have announced that captain Bernard Parker will not continue as part of the team beyond the 2021/22 season.
Parker has played his final game for Amakhosi after the club confirmed that he will not be handed a new deal for the 20222/23 season, bringing an end to his reign as the longest serving outfield player in Naturena.
The 36-year-old joined Chiefs in 2011 from Dutch outfit FC Twente, with only goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune having been present in the Soweto giants' dressing room for longer.
Calls for 'Die Hond' to step aside from the club's supporters have grown in intensity in recent times, and it appears the Chiefs hierarchy has acceded to the pressure.
However, SABC Sport understands Parker will not be discarded and will instead be offered a position within the club's staff, with the former Bafana Bafana forward holding several qualifications in sports management and marketing.
The Glamour Boys have thus far released a raft of first-team stars, including Samir Nurkovic, Leonardo Castro, Lazarous Kambole, Dumisani Zuma, Lebogang Manyama, Kearyn Baccus, Daniel Cardoso and Daniel Akpeyi, while Anthony Akumu has been transfer-listed.
