Downs set record straight on Shalulile

Mamelodi Sundowns, through head coach Rulani Mokwena, have set the record straight on the whereabouts of striker Peter Shalulile.

Despite initially confirming that the Namibian international was out injured and œseeing a specialist to help with his recovery and determine how long he would be sidelined, that™s not stopped speculation that the player has gone AWOL.

Mokwena poured cold water on the social media rumours that Shalulile, who signed a new five-year contract in July, was attempting to force a move out of the club.

The forward hasn™t played since the goalless draw in the first leg of the MTN8 semifinal against Orlando Pirates on 1 October.

œI said to you he is being attended to by a specialist. He has undergone surgery, Mokwena told journalists after Downs beat Maritzburg United 5-0 at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday night in the DStv Premiership.

œBut it™s something that is not too much of a concern, and hopefully we get him back as soon as possible. For sure, he is not available until the [FIFA] World Cup break is over. It was a very difficult diagnosis - related to a sports hernia. But also not a sports hernia, it was a little bit complicated.

"That™s why he had to see three different specialists. You can expect him, without putting too much pressure, back sooner than we anticipated.

Mokwena added that the surgery went well.

œNot as big as we thought, he said of the injury.

œ[He had a] very successful surgery. He™s on his way back, hopefully we can get him on the green grass sooner than we think.
