The Chairman of the Motsepe Foundation, Patrice Motsepe has confirmed that the first prize of the ABC Motsepe national play-offs will increase to R3 million from next season.
Speaking after crowning the 2021/2022 ABC Motsepe national champions MM Platinum from Westbury, Johannesburg, at the Olen Park Stadium in Potchefstroom, Motsepe says there is a need to increase the prize money due to the challenges these clubs are faced with.
The CAF President says the most important thing is to ensure that there are better resources for all levels of the game, while he also believes partnering school football with the amateur ranks is necessary in order to tackle the issue of development.
"Part of what we're doing is to increase the prize money because they've been getting R1-million - [the plan is] to increase that to R3-million," Motsepe told the media.
"And also to work together so that there are more resources for football development in the rural areas, as well as for coaches.
"But we must also link amateur football with school's football, and over time it will translate into better football players in the Premier Soccer League, as well as in the national league (NFD)."
