Zwane wants Chiefs to have more fun
Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane says their approach to games, including this weekends MTN8 semifinal first leg encounter against AmaZulu, is to be a bit relaxed and not allow pressure to get to them.
Despite a slow start to the season, Chiefs seemed to be peaking just before the international break as they registered an impressive come-from-behind 2-1 win over SuperSport United.
In his first season as head coach, Zwane knows the pressure is on the team as they have not lifted silverware in seven years now, but hes taking a different approach to psyching up his players.
"You know, in football, if you want to win things and do well, you have to bring that element of fun. We don't want tense players, I don't want to be tense myself - I used to be a player and I didn't want to be tense, I wanted to be free all the time so that I can express myself," said Zwane.
"And that's exactly what we're doing with the players, that's why they're having fun right now and they'll also be having fun on the field until we get it right, because the more they become tense, the more they'll be making a lot of mistakes - mistakes that will never help them grow.
"But if a player makes a mistake and he can see at home, 'I made a mistake but this is what I wanted to do because it is within our structure,' and then he'll grow because he knows it's a mistake that he can rectify.
"So, football is a game of mistakes and right now we're fighting to minimise our mistakes, and we're doing very well, we're coming alright. And I have no doubt that very, very soon we'll start winning games, not conceding goals and scoring more goals."
