Alcaraz ready to 'rest and reset' following shock Italian Open exit

Carlos Alcaraz says he needs a few days to "reset" his mind ahead of the French Open, after his shock Italian Open defeat by Hungarian Fabian Marozsan yesterday.

The Spaniard has been in top form on clay, winning titles in Buenos Aires, Barcelona and Madrid ahead of the Rome tournament.

However, Alcaraz, struggled against world number 135 seed Hungarian qualifier Fabian Marozsan, 23, to suffer his second defeat on the clay surface this year.

Following the stunning 6-3, 7-6 straight set loss, the 20-year-old Alcaraz admitted that "I was perfect physically. I just didn't feel comfortable. He [Marozsan] made me feel uncomfortable on the court. He was aggressive all the time.

"It was tough for me to get into the match, into the rally. I made a lot of mistakes that I usually don't make. Obviously, these days can happen and you have to handle it," he added.

"In the second set, I was close, I had my chances but didn't take them. He was at the same level all the time. He deserves the win," admitted the World's second seed.

Alcaraz, who was on a 12-match winning streak prior to his chock Italian Open exit, and is set to replace Novak Djokovic in the top spot in the rankings and take the number one seeding at Roland Garros, went on to reveal his plan ahead of the French Open.

"I'm going to rest a little bit. I need some days to reset my mind, to be fresh for Roland Garros," said Alcaraz.

"Of course, to practice. That's no secret. If I want to have good results in Paris, if I want to go to Paris in good shape, I have to practice.

"It's going to be really helpful to have days at home practising and getting ready," he concluded.

The French Open is set to start on May 28.
