Seabi fails to make weight ahead of EFC interim fight

Ahead of his EFC interim fight on Thursday against JP Kruger, veteran mixed martial arts athlete Conrad Seabi failed to make weight.

Seabi, coach at Brothers In Arms gym in Mamelodi, needed to be under 83kg as a middleweight fighter and the latest developments at the EFC Performance Institute this morning meant that he had two hours to cut the load.

This means, should Seabi not succeed in the build-up to the event tomorrow, he will not have a title shot against Luke Michael later this year if he beats Kruger, although the victory will go on his record.

But if Kruger emerges victorious in the interim fight, he gets to face Michael, who is currently recovering from an injury.

Seabi was in no mood for interviews at the EFC headquarters shortly after the live weigh-in revealed he’d failed to meet the requirements.

It’s expected the fight will go ahead, but with a clear understanding of the ramifications of not making weight for Seabi, a popular figure in the mixed martial arts fraternity.

EFC 103 will have a co-main event featuring a title fight and the co-main event between Roedie Roets and August Kayambala as they battle it out for the featherweight championship.
