Floyd Mayweather on a mission to develop African boxing talent

Mayweather was speaking to the media, after landing at the Lanseria International Airport this afternoon on his TMT Private jet worth a whopping $50 million from Harare, in Zimbabwe where his visit dubbed the #MotherlandTour started.

Mayweather, who finished his career with 50 undefeated bouts and 15 major world titles in different divisions, has more on his latest African visit.

"We had a chance to actually watch three or four exhibition bouts the other day, a lot of talent. So, hopefully, with my team that's in Africa we can get together and bring a lot of this talent to meet with the promoters, so we are able to take these fighters all around the world, so the world can see their talent not just in Africa," Mayweather said.

"I always wanna inspire my people and push my people, let them know they can be great like myself. I didn't do it by myself, I did it with the push from the fabs all around the world and especially the fans from Africa and my people from Africa. They pushed me first and I love them first."

Mayweather had started his visit to Africa, in Zimbabwe a few days ago, where he was invited by prominent businessman and boxing enthusiast Scott Sakupwanya. He also talks about his visit to SA and what he’s aiming to achieve out of it, as he calls for more Africans even here in SA to own their land.

"It's all about giving back and it's about growth and I want to see more people in South Africa have more ownership. We are in Johannesburg, it's all about like myself, I own my career, I won myself, I became my own boss and even in America, it's about real estate," Mayweather added.

"So, I want the people in Africa, you have all the resources, you guys have all the land but we need to get a lot of that land back to the Africans and you guys need to own yourself."

Through his company the TMT, Mayweather is also focused on being a promoter and a businessman. He believes there’s so much boxing talent on the African continent that they can promote worldwide.

"It's all about helping young fighters all around the world but like we talked about, there's so much great talent in Africa. So, I want the world to be able to see the next Floyd Mayweather and hopefully, we can find that in Africa."
