Kabelo Mulaudzi eyes his fourth consecutive 10km race victory

All eyes will be fixed on Kabelo Mulaudzi as he vies for his fourth consecutive 10km race victory on Heritage Day.

The spotlight shines brightly on this exceptional athlete, a representative of the red-hot Boxer Running Club, as he takes on the final leg of the Absa Run Your City Joburg five-part series.

The race is set to start and conclude at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown this Sunday at 8 a.m.

Mulaudzi, at the age of 25, has already secured wins in the Durban and Tshwane 10km races, firmly establishing himself as the favourite to claim yet another 10km title.

Just three weeks ago, he emerged triumphant at the Hollywoodbets Durban Summer 10km race, and last weekend, he clinched victory at the Athletics South Africa (ASA) cross-country 10km championships in Gqeberha.

Clearly, Mulaudzi is at the peak of his game.

“Although I secured a third-place finish in last year’s Joburg 10km race, I’m entering this year’s competition as the favourite. Whenever I step onto the racecourse, my aim is to land in the top three. I’m fully aware that all eyes are on me, and spectators will be closely scrutinizing my every move, shadowing my every step throughout the event.  However, my strategy is to stay focused on my own race and seize the opportunity to take the lead if my competitors become too preoccupied with me. Winning another race, this time in Joburg, would be an incredibly gratifying achievement,” shared Mulaudzi during a press conference with SABC Sport on Friday.

Mulaudzi remains unfazed by the challenging terrain of the course and hopes for favourable weather conditions on race day.

This event promises a substantial R30 000 prize for both the top three male and female finishers, motivating participants to give their best performance.

“I’m mainly concerned about the high-way wind. It can become quite chilly and impact my performance during the race. The hills, on the other hand, don’t trouble me too much. I’m in good health and eagerly anticipating the race,” said Mulaudzi.
