Kabelo Mulaudzi not showing signs of fatigue ahead of national cross country championships

Despite conquering three grueling 10km competitions and securing victory in a regional cross-country event within the span of just three months, South Africa’s long-distance runner Kabelo Mulaudzi remains unfazed by the spectre of exhaustion.

His triumphant journey began with wins at the Absa Run Your City 10km race in Durban, followed by the Tshwane 10km and the Hollywoodbets Durban Summer 10km race.

Remarkably, he continued his winning streak by claiming the top spot at the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) provincial country championships in Kagiso. At the age of 25, this gifted athlete exhibits no signs of deceleration as he approaches the Athletics South Africa (ASA) cross-country championships this weekend, where he stands as the undisputed favourite.

The eagerly anticipated ASA event is set to take place in Gqeberha on Saturday at 7 a.m.

“I receive consistent messages and prioritize self-care to prevent avoidable injuries. Recovery is faster after 10km races compared to the gruelling 21km ones, and we ensure I receive a weekly message.

This week, my training will focus on gradual preparation for the upcoming cross-country event. I still have four races left in this season, and my intention is to compete in all of them.  I have full confidence in my body’s capabilities, and my plan is to participate in as many races as possible.” Shared Mulaudzi in an interview with SABC Sport.

The unassuming runner confidently embraces the role of the favourite as he approaches the weekend event.

He maintains that he won’t employ any extraordinary measures to secure victory and intends to approach this race in the same manner as he does with any other.

“My aim is to secure a podium finish, and from there, I strive for victory in every race. Ultimately the goal is the clinch the national title and proudly represent South Africa at the upcoming world cross-country championships in Croatia next year.  I hold a positive outlook on my prospects of triumphing in the race this weekend,” said Mulaudzi.
