Kabelo Mulaudzi searches for his first national 10km title

Kabelo Mulaudzi has set his sights on claiming victory at the Athletics South Africa (ASA) 10km championships and securing his first-ever Olympic Games appearance in Paris in July.

This Sunday marks a pivotal moment for him as he prepares to compete on the streets of Johannesburg in the highly anticipated ASA 10km championships, presented in collaboration with the Motsepe Foundation and the City of Johannesburg.

Coinciding with the ASA event is the Race to Gender Equality, hosted at Marks Park Sports Centre.

The 10km race, commencing at 7:30 am, presents Mulaudzi with the opportunity to vie for the top position and a coveted R20 000 prize.

The 21.1km race will kick off 30 minutes earlier at 7 am, offering a prize of R42 000, while the 5km walk/run will start at 7:45 am.

“In my pursuit of success this year, I have two primary goals in mind. Firstly, clinching my maiden national 10km title and secondly, securing a spot in the Olympics. These aspirations have been driving my efforts for years. It’s not about setting a specific time target; rather the thrill of crossing the finish line first,” Remarked Mulaudzi in a conversation with SABC Sport.

Mulaudzi, alongside his coach Richard Meyer, has been diligently focused on securing the crucial title this weekend.

Building on last year’s victory at the ASA Cross Country Championships, claiming another national title would mark another successful year on the competitive circuit.

Mulaudzi expressed, “Physically, I’m feeling fine, and we’ve devised a race strategy to come out strong right from the start. I’m eager to hit the road, understanding the formidable competition and knowing that numerous runners are vying for the title as well.”
