In his recent appearance at the Run Your City 10km race in Gqeberha, the 23-year-old won the event, crossing the Finish Line in 28 minutes and 01 seconds, securing R30 000 prize for his first place.
While the spotlight shone on South African contenders like Precious Mashele, Elroy Gelant, and local favourite Thabang Mosiako, Langat stole the show.
With his sights set on the upcoming Run Your City 10km event in the Mother City next week, he enters the race as the favourite, buoyed by his recent success.
Since his triumph in Gqeberha, he has displayed remarkable progress, securing a notable top-10 finish in the Kenyan cross-country trials and an impressive fifth place at the Adizero Road to Records in Germany, clocking an astonishing time of 27:11 his personal best.
Langat, who is heading into the next race high on confidence, is aiming for another win and breaking the 28-minute barrier again, “It was an amazing feeling to cross the finish line as the first finisher. I hope for a faster time but the wind, didn’t allow it. I want to win another race in South Africa and surpass my PB,” said Langat during his interview with SABC Sport.
Local runners didn’t see him as a threat in the Eastern Cape competition.
However, Stephen Mokoka and Kabelo Mulaudzi, absent from the Gqeberha event, will now team up with Gelant, Mashele, and Mosiako to challenge the Kenyan favourite.
Langat is determined to break his PB, which might propel them towards breaking the national 10km record of 27:35, currently held by Precious Mashele.
Achieving this feat would earn the new record holder a bonus of R50 000.
