Hosted by the Bedfordview Country Club Athletics, this much-awaited 21km event is scheduled for Sunday.
With an entry cap set at 6000 participants, the starting pistol will echo through Riley Road at 6 am, and the prize-giving ceremony is scheduled to take place at 8; 30 am.
A grand prize of R8400 awaits the first male and female runners to triumphantly cross the finish line, marking a significant milestone in the world of half-marathons.
Manager of Tthe Nedbank Running Club Nick Bester conveyed to the national broadcaster that the club’s athletes have resumed training and are well-prepared to kick off the new season, commencing with the Dischem event.
“We approach the event with utmost seriousness and are assembling a formidable team of runners. This occasion serves as a preview of what lies ahead this season, and our athletes are enthusiastic about their participation. Many of them have dedicated their festive period to rigorous training, making significant sacrifices, and they are now eager to assess their preparedness for the upcoming season,” said Bester.
“This weekend, we will be represented by accomplished runners such as Edward Mothibi, Joseph Manyedi, Tete Dijana, and others,”
Bester emphasized the significance of races like these, underscoring their role in supporting social runners by offering essential amenities such as water stations, medals, and t-shirts.
He expressed optimism that favourable weather conditions would prevail on race day, contributing to an enjoyable and successful event.
