Norma Plummer excited for upcoming Quad Series

Proteas coach Norma Plummer wants to use the Quad series against the top-three ranked countries in world netball, Australia, New Zealand, and England, to gauge the players’ readiness for the world cup later this year.

The Proteas are in camp in Stellenbosch to prepare for the annual tournament, which takes place at the International Conversion Centre in Cape Town from 21-25 January 2023.

The 78-year-old Australian-born mentor is coaching the Proteas for the second time since 2015.

“The team is working hard, and we have a blend of young and experienced players. We named a strong team of 15 players, and Karla Pretorius is back in the team after giving birth. She is looking fantastic and needs practice, but she gets better each time she hits the court. The Series will give me an idea of where this group is a few months before the world cup. The tournament should answer a lot of these questions,” Plummer told SABC Sport.

Plummer added that the Proteas are not going into the tournament to make up the numbers against the big girls in world netball.

“We hope to win a couple of games. We will try a different style. We are looking forward to the challenge,” Plummer added.

The three nations will arrive in Cape Town to prepare for the tournament on Monday.
