The South African number one, who survived a five-set epic on Monday, went down 6-2, 3-5, 5-7, 6-4 in just over three hours on the hard courts of a muggy Melbourne Park.
With a first-serve percentage of just 41% in the opening set, Harris struggled to make any inroads as world number 78 Fucsovics took advantage to take the lead. The Hungarian continued his form into the second set to go two sets up.
Harris' serve began to find its range in the third set, and he converted his only break point to steal the set 7-5 and extend the match. But errors continued to mount up for the Cape Town-born star, who committed no less than 55 unforced errors in the match, as Fucsovics closed out the fourth and final set.
The second-round exit still earns Harris a cool R1.8 million for his efforts, as he looks to rebound from a wrist surgery that saw him sidelined for six months until recently.
However, Harris isn't done at Melbourne Park, as he teams up with fellow South African doubles specialist Raven Klaasen in the men's doubles.
