The race is scheduled to be held at the Moses Molelekwa Arts Centre, next to Makhulong Stadium, on Sunday, October 29. Interested runners can register for the mile and 10km races at www.thembisamile.co.za.
The registration fee for the 10km race is set at R150 for licensed athletes under Athletics South Africa (ASA), while unlicensed participants will need to pay an additional R60 for a temporary license.
For 1-mile, ASA-licensed athletes will pay a registration fee of R50, with the unlicensed participants required to pay an additional R20 for a temporary license.
Race numbers can be collected by participants at the EXPO located at the race venue from October 27-29.
Exciting prizes await the winners of the men’s and women’s 10km races, each receiving R5000, while the invitational 1-mile race champions will take home R4000.
Donald Mathipa, the driving force behind this event and its dedicated organizer, passionately encouraged all potential runners to secure their entries promptly to avoid any disappointments down the line.
“The invitation for the mile race would be extended to the top athletes based on the latest rankings in the 800m and 1 500m categories by Athletics South Africa.
Meanwhile, registrations are available online for the mass participation categories encompassing the 10km and 1 mile.
Our goal is to achieve total participation of 3000 runners with 2500 runners individuals expected to take part in the 10km race and an additional 500 participants joining the 1-mile event,” He shared with SABC Sport.
“The entry sales are proceeding at a slower pace, and we strongly urge runners to utilize our secure online registration portals for their safety and convenience. Handling cash transactions on the morning of the race could pose safety risks, given the high crime rate prevalent nationwide.
Additionally, we are delighted by the confirmation of the prominent athlete Glenrose Xaba which is truly fantastic news for the race. We anticipate further announcements of other participants in the near future,” added Mathipa.
