3rd October 2023
This tour includes a three-match test series scheduled for October 26-31 where the Proteas will play against the world netball champions Australia.
Ngubane cited academic challenges as the primary reason for her withdrawal. Currently, she is proudly representing Johannesburg at the South African Netball Senior Championships, hosted at High School Rustenburg.
At the age of 21, Ngubane is pursuing a degree in Logistics at the University of Johannesburg and is gearing up for her end-of-year examinations, which are just around the corner.
She emphasized her commitment to prioritizing her education, asserting that while she values her involvement in netball, academics take precedence.
She explained that she strives to strike a balance between her studies and her passion for netball, making netball a secondary when her academic workload permits.
As she prepares for her upcoming exams, Ngubane stated: “I will play netball until my body cannot carry me, but I don’t know which path I will take in life. It’s important to have that piece of paper from the university,” as she shared with SABC Sport.
Ngubane played a pivotal role in contributing to Johannesburg’s exhilarating 49-49- draw against Mangaung on Tuesday.
As a member of the Proteas 2023 World Cup squad, she reflects on this experience as a significant turning point in her career.
“Being a part of that squad was undoubtedly the highlight of my career. I gained invaluable insights from competing against top-tier teams, realizing the stark contrast with our local team. The guidance from our coaches and the wisdom shared by senior players allowed me to absorb the entire experience,” said Ngubane.
Johannesburg coach Dr. Elsje Jordaan and Netball SA president Cecilia Molokwane also confirmed the withdrawal of Ngubane from the Proteas squad.
“She withdrew from the Proteas due to academic challenges and we decided to include her late in the Nationals champs’ squad,” said Jordaan.
Molokwane added: “It’s unfortunate for her to withdraw because the exams are around the corner, but it's an opportunity for another player to come in,” said Molokwane.
