Women's World Cup: Five-star Spain overpower Zambia

Spain were in excellent form against Zambia in their Women's World Cup Group C clash on Wednesday as they secured a 5-0 victory at Eden Park.

In the 9th minute, a brilliant passing move led to Teresa Abelleira smashing a thunderbolt into the top corner from 25 yards.

Jenni Hermoso, celebrating her 100th game for Spain, doubled the lead in the 13th minute with a well-placed header.

The second half saw Spain continue their attacking prowess. Alba Redondo, a halftime substitute, ran onto a perfect ball from Eva Navarro, fending off a defender to slot in Spain's third goal in the 69th minute.

In the 71st minute, confusion arose when Hermoso's shot hit the post and went in, only to be ruled out for offside. After VAR review, the goal was rightfully awarded, marking Hermoso's 50th goal in 100 caps.

Spain kept pushing forward, with Hermoso hitting the crossbar in the 83rd minute, narrowly missing her hat-trick. In the 85th minute, Redondo seemed to have scored Spain's fifth goal, but it was disallowed for offside after a VAR check.
