South Africa begin their inbound tour against India at Kingsmead this evening, before continuing the series in Gqeberha, Centurion and Johannesburg.

Having reached their first-ever final in the Carribbean back in June, only to be denied by the number one ranked team in the world, Markram says internal discussions have not been about trying to enact revenge.

"I mean it's the same countries, I guess, but personnel has changed from both teams. It's always an exciting series against India, especially at home, so it's a series we're always looking forward to, but we haven't addressed anything about a rematch," said Markram.

"But obviously a lot of the talk and, I guess, promotions have happened through that lens, which is also completely understandable."

Playing against India also gives the South Africans an opportunity to land Indian Premier League contracts ahead of the auction later this month.

However, the 30-year-old insists the pride of the Protea badge remains their sole motivation to win the series, with anything else only coming as a bonus.

"I don't think it's the focus, but as we all know with things like the auction, especially at a big tournament like the IPL, a lot of things can fall into place for players and we're fortunate that we play against them pretty much just before that happens," he added.

"But that would pretty much be the bonus of doing well, firstly, collectively and then for the individuals that put their hands up, so I don't think it's our motivation to do well, I think it's the bonus that potentially could follow.

"In the camp, I don't think there's been any discussions along those lines, but again, if guys put their hands up, do well, and it leads to more, we'll certainly be really chuffed for them."
