Spanish teen Carlos Alcaraz has sealed a place in history books, following his victory over Norway™s Casper Ruud, to claim his first major title at the US open, to become the youngest male to be ranked number one in the world.

Alcaraz, 19, in his way to the final he played three uninterrupted five-set matches, including the quarterfinals on Thursday where he overcame Jannik Sinner.

On Sunday, the young Spanish man put the finishing touches to a dominant performance that landed him a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7/1), 6-3 victory over Ruud (23), in a clash that took approximately 4 hours in New York.

Alcaraz became the youngest men's singles grand slam winner since Rafael Nadal, in 2005. And this is what he says about the victory:

"This is something that I dreamt of since I was a kid - to be number one in the world, to be a champion of a Grand Slam."

"This is something that I worked really really hard for. It's tough to talk right now, a lot of emotions.

"This is something that I tried to achieve, all the hard work that I did with my team and my family. I'm just 19 and all the top decisions were taken by my parents and my team. This is something that is really, really special for me," said Alcaraz.
