Boxing South Africa give clarity on "Undermining" claims

Boxing South Africa (BSA) chief executive Ntsikayezwe Sithole has given clarity on complaints about awards nominations, ahead of tonight’s ceremony in Durban.

In May BSA announced its nomination list for the 2023 season but received mixed views from promoters and disgruntled boxers.

"We are not undermining or disrespecting anyone as BSA, I saw reports on that. When we announced nominations, we did open an opportunity for anyone to raise concerns”, Sithole claimed.

"We gave everyone 24 hours, we indeed received that, and the committee recognized them. There were names we did not see, due to some connection issues. We then made changes, hence you saw the updated nomination list.”

Sithole also revealed plans to revive the sport and attract more sponsors through the introduction of financial education to promoters and boxers.

"We are looking to grow the sport, we are happy that SABC is back on board. This will help in getting sponsors, then we will educate our members on financial challenges. We are really moving as an association.”

"We plan to move to all provinces, growing the sport by assisting upcoming promoters and female promoters.”

The BSA awards return to KwaZulu Natal on Thursday with a special guest rewarded for his promotion of the sport.
