Jenny Van Dyk shortlisted to replace Norma Plummer as the new Proteas coach

Jenny Van Dyk, one of the shortlisted coaches, will embark on a training program as an apprentice under Norma Plummer’s guidance during the Proteas ’tour to Australia, which is scheduled to take place from October 26-31.

This tour serves as an opportunity for Van Dyk and her fellow shortlisted coach to gain valuable insights and experience.   

Subsequently, both shortlisted coaches will accompany the team on tours to Australia and England in November.  

It is during these tours that the NSA will evaluate and make a final decision regarding the coach who will assume leadership responsibilities.

During the Australian tour, Van Dyk will benefit from Plummer’s mentorship, and a similar mentoring process will take place during the English tour with another coach.

Notably, Van Dyk currently serves as the national Under-21 head coach and is also fulfilling the role of a national selector during the ongoing SA Netball Senior Championships at High School Rustenburg.

Van Dyk, renowned for leading Tshwane to an impressive five National Netball titles and clinching four consecutive Telkom Netball League championships, is the favourite to take over the hot seat.

When questioned by SABC Sport about her potential candidacy for the coaching position, Van Dyk remained tight-lipped.

She responded, “I cannot confirm nor deny the rumours, but there are developments in progress. My current role at the Senior Championships involves serving as a selector for NSA. I’m focused on diligently observing all the matches and will contribute with a comprehensive report at the conclusion of the tournament,” she told the national broadcaster.

NSA President Cecilia Molokwane confirmed that the national federation is on the search for a new coach to replace Plummer.

Molokwane confirmed, “Indeed, we intend to select a local coach as Norma’s successor. However, we are committed to a meticulous approach and want to avoid any hasty decisions that might lead to errors. We’ve already pinpointed two potential coaches, one for an upcoming tour to Australia and another for a tour to England. Norma will play a mentoring role in their development, and our final decision will be made after the conclusion of December,” She explained.
