Team SA earned six medals across both events.
The long jump legend, now in his final year as chairperson before the upcoming elections, commended the athletes' dedication and hopes their achievements can serve as a foundation for even greater success at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
"I am excited on the performances of our Olympians and our Paralympians. I think if we first look at the Olympians, the number of athletes that we have that are young, I'm particularly excited about the fact that we've got a lot of young athletes that are going to be going through and showing up in 2028 and 2032,” Mokoena said.
“If you look at the performances that we have, we had a lot of finalists, top 5's, top 10. We had a lot of youngsters getting medals, so I'm quite excited with that, the fact that we did better than 2020."
Mokoena shared with SABC Sport that he was pleasantly surprised by the Paralympic team's recent performance, as they returned with six medals last week.
He admitted that he hadn't anticipated such an impressive showing from the team.
"Also look at the Paralympic Games, I really think that the performances were also surprising and taken into consideration, now remember we also had to have a mental health webinar before the Paralympians left.
You know, athletes are going through a lot of things and I think that again, us having to send sports psychologists with the team that has helped a lot. I'm really excited about the level of performance that the Paralympians have bought through."
