Simbine dashed across the finish line in 10.01 seconds, just shy of the automatic qualifying time of 10:00 flat, in a pulsating final witnessed by an enthusiastic crowd.
Emerging as a rising 100m sensation, Bayanda Walaza secured the silver medal with a commendable time of 10.27, while Bradly Nkoana clinched third place with a finish time of 10.29 seconds.
Following his triumphant defence, Simbine proudly proclaimed himself as the reigning king of sprinters with his eighth national title.
''I am happy with 10.01, can't complain about that. Now up for my next race in China next week,'' said Simbine.
Simbine has turned his attention to the upcoming Diamond League event in Shanghai, China, scheduled for 27 April.
He exudes confidence in his ability to achieve a sub-10 second run during the European season, all while gearing up for the upcoming Games in Paris later this year.
''I am confident going into the season. I'm starting the season next week. I am excited to get on the plane and get to China,'' added Akani.
Simbine has certainty about participating in two races in Europe, with the remainder of his schedule subject to confirmation by his coach Werner Prinsloo.
Simbine jokily said that he won’t return to South Africa until the conclusion of the Olympic Games, citing the chilly weather.
Instead, he plans to embark on a global journey, visiting destinations such as China, the USA, Bahama, and Italy, where he intends to establish his training camp in Gemona.
