SASCOC president Barry Hendricks raises hand for re-election

SASCOC boss Barry Hendricks has confirmed his intention to run for a second term when the elections for a new board takes place next month.

Hendricks has told SABC Sport that the elections for the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee's leadership will be held on 30 November 2024 at Olympic House in Rosebank, Johannesburg.

The elections, which are held every four years, were scheduled during SASCOC’s annual general meeting three weeks ago at its headquarters.

"The elections will take place on 30 November, the nominations forms have already been sent out by the independent Nominations Committee," said Hendricks.

"Those nominations close on 31 October, and within seven days, the Nominations Committee, through the secretariat or CEO, will announce who have put their hands up to stand for the organisation's elections."

Hendricks feels there is still unfinished business from his first term and is determined to stay on to implement the plans he proposed four years ago.

"Yes, there's still so much work to be done in this organisation, it's an honour and privilege to stand [for re-election] by ensuring it's done by independent organisations, and ensuring we adhere to our own policies and procedures," he added.

The former Squash SA chairman also took the opportunity to explain the voting process involved in electing a new SASCOC board.

"So SASCOC has about 78 federations or members, the voting strengths differ – Olympic sports have three votes, non-Olympic sports have two votes, and other organisations have one vote – that will all then be tallied during the elections," Hendricks explained.

"I cannot say what the total number of votes needed is because on the day it will be determined by the number of federations or members that are actually present."
