Slovakia's Tamara Potocka received medical attention after finishing heat

Slovakian swimmer Tamara Potocka required medical attention after collapsing immediately following her heat in the women's 200 meters individual medley on Friday morning.

Potocka was given oxygen and treated by poolside medical professionals before being carried out of La Defense Arena on a stretcher for further examination.

A Slovakian team official revealed that Potocka is asthmatic and had an asthma attack after her race, where she finished seventh in her heat and missed out on a semi-final place.

Potocka, though, regained consciousness and was communicating with doctors before being taken to hospital for more monitoring.

Israeli swimmer Lea Polonsky, admitted the situation was traumatizing to witness.

"Of course that's something in the back of your mind, but we do every day push ourselves to the limit," Polonsky said. "You always know something like that can happen. It's not something you think about during the race, but it's always there."
