Why Ledwaba is taking on SAFA…again

With the SA Football Association (SAFA) confirming three new vice presidents to incumbent Danny Jordaan at the weekend, it has emerged that their predecessor is still waging war against the national governing body.

SABC Sport is in possession of documents that prove Ria Ledwaba continues to contest the elective congress held as far back as 25 June in which she was running for presidency alongside Jordaan and Solly Mohlabeng.

Jordaan polled 186 votes, while Ledwaba and Mohlabeng managed 27 and eight respectively to have him reinstated for a third term in office.

At the weekend, administrators Natasha Tsichlas, Linda Zwane and Bennett Bailey were named the new vice presidents to replace Ledwaba, Xolile Nkompela and Gladwyn White as another era begins.

But Ledwaba and Mohlabeng, the SAFA Tshwane region president, have requested for an arbitration that will declare the elective congress œnot transparent, fair and just as it took place œcontrary to the principles of the legality.

Ledwaba had also seen her attempts to interdict the SAFA elections at the time dismissed by the High Court.

She now also wants the arbitration to call for elections that will reinstate the previous national executive committee and have them choose a new president as well as having fresh governance regulations adopted.

Ledwaba™s request from her attorney Leruma Thobejane is dated 23 August, however, SAFA CEO Tebogo Motlanthe only responded two weeks later.

When approached for comment by SABC Sport regarding the latest turn of events, especially after a big weekend for the federation, where Walter Steenbok was also appointed as the Technical Advisor, Motlanthe was reluctant to comment.

It™s the public broadcaster™s understanding that SAFA attorneys are also drafting their own response to Ledwaba and Mohlabeng.
