Canan Moodie plays down injury as he misses out on URC knockout clash

Rising star Canan Moodie is confident he will be fighting fit for the Bulls and Springboks in the near future.

The World Cup winner took to the Bulls' social media channels to confirm that he will not be available for selection this weekend. Moodie's teammates are preparing to host Benneton in the United Rugby Championship quarterfinals at Loftus Versveld.

In the video, the backline player went on to allay fears, revealing that his sidelining is just precautionary.

"Unfortunately I won't be able to play this weekend due to injury," said the 21-year-old.

"But I want to encourage everyone to come out and help me support the boys. And hopefully, we can pull this one through.

"It's just bumps and bruises. We are strapping it so I can make sure I can get on the field and play and contribute to the team.

"Nothing hectic, just a bit of precaution with the strapping and ensuring I can function fully and go 100% when needed."

Moodie won't be the Springbok absent from the Bulls' lineup.

Head coach Jake White revealed earlier this week that flanker Marco van Staden picked up a niggle in the Sharks clash and will likely miss Saturday's fixture. White will unveil his Bulls team on Friday afternoon.

Update: The team release revealed that Moodie is set for surgery on his hand on Friday.

"It is one of those where they will only be able to see how serious it is once they open him up," said White.

"It is his index finger (that is fractured) which influences his passing, on top of his pinkie a few weeks ago which he has strapped before. I am not sure if it will be one of those that you can strap in a couple of weeks and play but he remains unavailable this week and the next."
