Champion Blitzboks face tough pool as Sevens heads Down Under

The Springboks Sevens have been drawn in a pool that includes current champions Argentina and the hosts Australia for the third leg of the HSBC World Sevens Series.

The pool draw took place at Perth Stadium on Thursday. Australia will host the three-day tournament from January 24 to 26. The Blitzboks were drawn in Pool A alongside Argentina, Australia, and the USA.

South Africa won the Cape Town Sevens title, while Fiji, who leads the men's standings, took first place in Dubai.

In January the Springbok Sevens side finished their Perth campaign on a high note by outplaying France 24-5 to finish the tournament in fifth place.

Pool B features Olympic champions France together with Spain, Great Britain, and Ireland, and Pool C will see Dubai champs Fiji face off against New Zealand, Kenya, and Uruguay.

World Rugby Sevens General Manager Sam Pinder said he is looking forward to another "world-class event."

"Today's HSBC SVNS Perth pool draw has delivered some mouth-watering match-ups and kicks off an exciting year for rugby sevens with Perth set to deliver a festival atmosphere at HBF Park," he said.

"The opening two rounds of HSBC SVNS 2025 showed it is all to play for on the pitch with four different winners so far and exciting new talent emerging alongside many of the stars of the Olympic Games. We are all set for what promises to be another exhilarating event in the Perth sunshine."
